DI Sally Speckle gets a phone call from a man who calls himself Fred telling her that he has left a birthday present for her at the Old Mill. The call makes no sense, but it unnerves her particularly as the call is from a payphone in Loston Mental Hospital. Her present is the battered body of a faceless young woman.
