A collection of private family letters from WWI that have lain forgotten for almost 90 years, offering a unique, first-hand glimpse into the unfolding experience of the Western Front, in British India and on the Home Front. The Slaters lived in Oxford, Gilbert had been head of Ruskin College and worked as Prof of Indian Economics in Madras during the war, his wife Violet became an increasingly vocal pacifist, and their son Owen, a schoolboy in 1914 was fighting in France by war's end.
