Excerpt from German Reader: To Succeed the German CourseThis German Reader is intended especially for the use of students in Colleges, Academies, and High-schools who have finished the author's German Course.We would draw attention to the following features in the German Reader: The selections are made from the works of the best German writers of the present century. While a fair predominance is given to the writers of the first half of this century, which is usually termed by historians the second classical period of the German language and litera ture, * due prominence is also given to the language of the present day, as employed by the best writers of the last twenty years. That the student may feel as definitely as possible the in¿uence and spirit of the language, the selec tions have especial reference' to Germany. German history, biography, geography, mythology, and social life and cus toms are largely illustrated.
