They are, instead, precisely what Joseph Smith meant when he declared that the Book of Mormon will draw us nearer to God.The promises made in the Book of Mormon focus on matters pertaining to the kingdom of God. James advises those who seek wisdom to "ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him." The promises revealed through the Book of Mormon offer us the marvels of eternity. One purpose for our earthly existence is to learn to walk by faith. As we learn to develop our powers of faith in Christ, God will not allow our faith to go unanswered. We are promised that evidence and witnesses will "follow them that believe." Everyone who reads the Book of Mormon with a pure heart and with a desire to know of its truthfulness, can hear the sweet whisperings of the Holy Spirit. The Lord promises us a "more sure witness" of the truth of these things borne of the Holy Ghost. "It is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth."
