God the Holy Ghost (Classic Reprint)

Barry, Henry Aloysius

God the Holy Ghost (Classic Reprint)

Excerpt from God the Holy Ghost

In the present volume I have had a pervading principle, a distinct archetype and projected something other than a parterre of doctrinal flowers running riot in strangling redundancy. My design contemplates something more than a cento of shreds. No less in arrangement and detail have I had in mind to cultivate this unity and evolve an harmonious whole - howsoever broad of the mark I shall have come in the accomplishment of this end. The incidental observations are not of a kind to compromise thematic continuity, for, upon mature acquaintance their identity will be revealed, I feel competent to foretell, as scintillations of the theme and the natural twigs of the subject. I have no apology to make for the swiftness of transition to be met with here and there. My all-dominant motive has been to set forth the concrete reality of the Third Person, and in this capacity to adjust Him to our lives. I feel it a duty to make public acknowledgment of my appreciation of the literary encouragement given in abundance in all seasons by such highly endowed priests as the Very Rev. John B. Hogan, S.S., D D, President of St. John's Ecclesiastical Seminary, and the Rev. Alexander von Ascheberg, S.J., neither have I words that adequately reflect how profoundly sensible I am to the high honor His Eminence Cardinal Satolli has so beneficently condescended to do me.
