Earth is no longer made up of countries and nations, every bit of land is privatised and most of it is owned by five big corporations. Life is hard, people are struggling. Crime is rampant and serious offenders are sent to Mars to help with the terraforming. Only engineers and prisoners are currently living on Mars, but soon civilians will settle there. Benjamin Drake is a happy go lucky truck driver (called haulers) who just missed out on a very much needed contract. He has no money or any other jobs lined up since he always relied solely on Bob Turner to provide him with contracts. But today he screwed up and missed out, and now he is in deep trouble. Trying to drown his sorrows with his last few credits, he gets suckered into a conversation with Jimmy Something (his last name is unpronounceable by everyone, so the last name Something stuck). Jimmy is a small-time criminal who stumbled onto a big score. All he needs is a hauler to transport some cargo for him. Drake and Jimmy get thrown together and almost immediate Drake realised he made a huge mistake and got involved in something way bigger than he signed up for. Even Jimmy is in over his head, as he gets framed for murder. Drake gets thrown in as his accomplice, and now they are on the run from Penta Corporation's Security Force, with a truck full of stolen cargo, destined for Jacob Zuma.Sitting behind a desk after a big professional blunder, Lt Lilly Wells plots a way to get her career back on track. She was one of Penta Corporations top Security officers, with a reputation of always getting the job done, but now she is grounded. Getting back on track wouldn't be easy, but Wells gets put on a murder case and decides to throw everything at it to prove she is ready to be put back in the field. In the process, she uncovers something much bigger, involving a senior officer (Captain Santo) and a billionaire miner, Jacob Zuma. She connects the murder case to a stolen shipment of Bismuth and a plan to take over Mars. She tracks down Drake and Something, but instead of arresting them, she recruits them to help her stop the planned coup de tat of Mars. They reluctantly help her, until the final showdown between Wells' Penta security team and Jacob Zuma, where new alliances are tested and friendships pushed to the edge.
