Hawkeye, Volume 2: West Texas Forts and Indians

Hawkeye Volume Two is a continuation of the story of Thaddeus Stone of the United States Cavalry. After over three years of bloody warfare in the Arkansas Campaign, Stone decides to stay in the army and is assigned to West Texas and the effort by the United States Army to reestablish control over the region lost to native control during the war.

Settlers have been driven from the plains and have retreated all the way back to the eastern settlements. Texas Rangers and militia have tried and failed to keep the red man from flowing back into the region once again and even threaten San Antonio itself. Most of the United Statesż attention at this time is on reconstruction and protecting the rights of newly freed slaves. War almost destroyed the South to the point of total helplessness and an inability to maintain order. It is in this framework that Hawkeye finds himself once again in harms way.

Every effort has been made to bring this part of American history to life. The reader is transported back in time to experience the story in the most realistic circumstances as can be imagined in Hawkeye Volume 2.
