What was it like to be a student nurse during the mid 1940s? 18 year old Audrey French took the plunge and started training in Derby, a long way from her home in Hertfordshire. The stories of her training come thick and fast until illness unexpectedly interrupted her studies. Forced to leave Derby Royal Infirmary, yet very anxious to pick up the pieces, she starts again, this time nearer to home at the West Herts Hospital in Hemel Hempstead. Her training continues and again we are invited to share more of her amusing, and sometimes touching memories of doctors, nurses, fellow students and, of course, the patients.
