The reception of La familia de Pascual Duarte has been subject to never-coincident political readings, mainly due to the great ambiguity of its expression. For the first time, this study meditates and considers the ways in which Cela brought the historical reality of the summer of 1936 to fiction, always with a purpose as literary as it was political.
