Taken together, the territory had many advantages to recommend it for settlement. It had almost every variety of soil, was fertile and well wooded, and, on the side toward Narragansett bay there were large, tree less expanses, admirably fitted for tillage or grazing, known then, as now, as Seekonk plains.
