Homo Sapiens

I believe human evolution is in its infancy. We were hunter-gathers before speech development, we probably experienced ourselves as another species. Since we were predators and a food source for other predators, we were a rung on the food chain. We contributed to the balance and the symbiosis of nature. With the latest edition of the cerebral cortex came speech, the written word, and self-awareness. It also led to the fact that we 'forgot' that we were just other mammals and experienced ourselves as separate entities and not an animal. With the evolution of our intelligence came what we refer to as civilization. With that intelligence, we developed weapons and hunting skills to become the dominant predator on the planet.

In the 21st century, nothing has changed that much. We still seem to act and behave outside of the natural world despite our scientific knowledge. It is understandable since we are the only species with self-awareness. We do not contribute to the symbiosis of the food chain and only disturb and destroy the symbiosis of the natural world.

Evolutionary science has linked us to our closest DNA relative and great ape primate. The behavior of this primate eerily resembles the history of human behavior. I believe that Homo sapiens have inherited the DNA of our closest cousins, the chimpanzee, and at least in part explains the extremely aggressive territorial behavior that humans possess.

This is a book about how we got to now.
