HOW TO SLEEP WITH COWARDLY SHEEP : COUNT

¿ Counting Sheep To Go To Sleep ¿

That night, the little monster couldn't sleep,
too many thoughts - took him with a sweep.
The room was dark, he was all alone,
it wasn't much fun to be on his own.
When he told his parents he couldn't sleep,
they suggested he tried counting some sheep.
"Just try to relax and all you need to do,
is simply count the sheep in front of you."

Israeli children's books author, Sigal Adler, just keeps adding to her now a very impressive number of books for children. Each of her books was written in Hebrew and as they became best sellers in Israel she decided to have them translated into English to benefit an even broader range of children. As always Sigal's rhyming style is delightful. This new book is not only entertaining but also carries messages to those children fortunate enough to read them - or have them read to them. The books are enhanced by the excellent illustrations by Pixel Ink Studio. Those who follow Sigal Adler know that she offers a meaningful commentary about the importance of reading and the use of rhyme to bring the love of reading to play in children who are challenged by reading or discouraged about learning to read. 'Children with dyslexia, for instance, find it much easier to understand words when they rhyme rather than dissecting them into letters and syllables.'

In this book, GOOD OR BAD DAY I LOVE YOU ANYWAY, Sigal brings back her lovable little monsters for a fine lesson on emotions. - 'One day, the monster woke with a pout, "Wake up, sleepy!" his mother called out. "I won't ask you again, " his mother said. He finally managed to roll out of his bed. The monster started his day on the wrong foot, it was quite unpleasant and made him off-put. Nothing worked out, it was all quite a mess, "What a terrible day!" he said in distress.' And that bad day produces bad behavior, resulting in his mother's having to prod him to complete his chores. But when little monster sees his mother is distressed, he apologizes for being so wrong, asking her if she wanted another kid... to which his mother asks if he'd want another mom...and after a bad day, 'In the end, when all was said and done, their fight was over and love had won.'

As always, Sigal's books are a pleasure to read and carry important lessons for children to heed. This is another wonderful children's book, beautifully written in magical rhyme and related with terrific illustrations - Very Highly Recommended. Grady Harp, December 20
