Excerpt from Interludes Seven Lectures Delivered Between the Years 1891 and 1897

The present volume consists of a collection of lectures by the late Mr. H. C. Banister, found among his papers after his lamented death in November of last year, and now printed for the first time. As these lectures were delivered on various occasions between the years 1891 and 1897, before audiences differing widely in their character and composition, it will be occasionally noticed that certain thoughts and pronouncements occur more than once in the collection in similar or, perhaps, almost identical language, but as there is, for the reason stated above, no intended continuity of idea between the various lectures, this seems to the Editor to be of small moment, especially as the excision of such passages would in most instances have completely marred the author's design.
