Internal Migrants and their Economic activities in India

Movement of people have general association with some sort of dissatisfaction of an individual from prevailing conditions at usual place of residence and have expectation that their hopes can be realized at destination. Often it is best explained by push and pull theory of migration. Here present study surpasses that threshold. Data of internal migration in India, concludes that nearly 3/4th of the migrant have rural origin. Usually have little or no knowledge about the type of job kept for them at the place of destination. No doubt decrease has been recorded in agriculture sector with increase in other two sectors of economy but is this shift a positive one and leading to vertical shift in occupational structure of the migrant workers in India? Henceforth, this presentation tries examine some major facts of best known generalization in economics about development which sates that " a fall in the share of the 'primary' sector in the total output and employment and a continued rise in the share of the 'secondary' and 'tertiary' sectors" showing migration as indicator of development and how far is it true in Indian context of internal migration.
