The most remarkable public edifices and monuments are the castle, which is a large fortress capable of accommodat ing men, and'is one of the oldest structures in the city, the royal palace of Holyrood, or Holyrood House, the oldest part of which was built about 1528: this palace is quadrangular in form, with a central court 94 feet square.
