L'avare (Classic Reprint)

Excerpt from L'avareJean-baptiste poquelin, born at Paris in January, 1622, was the eldest son of Jean Poquelin, a wealthy upholsterer. After having been originally educated for his father's profession and then sent to the Jesuit College de Clermont at Paris, he is said to have studied jurisprudence, but soon to have abandoned the profession of a barrister. Undoubtedly he followed his in clination for the stage in 1643, and cast in his lot with the company of Madeleine Bejart. Like other actors of his time he adopted a pseudonym and called himself Moliere. The company notwithstanding their high-sounding name l'illustre Theatre, acted with little success and were at last obliged to leave the capital and try their fortune on a provincial tour.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
