Barroux rescued a real diary of a WWI soldier from a rubbish heap, and illustrated his words. In this striking b/w graphic novel adaptation, the events right at the beginning of the war are given fresh meaning and relevance to modern audiences. Translated by Sarah Ardizzone and with an introduction by Michael Morpurgo, this has appeal across the generations.
