H. Lynn Beck had no clue what to do after two years of agricultural study at
the university. He felt he was not learning anything and he was bored with
the time he spent on his family's Nebraska crop farm. On a Whim, he joined
the Peace Corps-that was a decision that would affect the rest of his life.


He was sent to Puerto Rico for training. After three weeks of Spanish training
he was sent to rural Puerto Rico alone for survival training. The training was
intense: from 7:00 a.m. to 10 p.m., six days a week.
