Magazine of Western History, Vol. 3

Excerpt from Magazine of Western History, Vol. 3: Illustrated, November, 1885 April, 1886Simultaneously with this accept ance, Jefferson submitted his famous plan for the subdivision and govern ment of the northwest territory, and such other western territory as might be obtained by cessions expected from the other states. The adoption of this report and the subsequent acts of con gress show that the main cause of jeal onsy was removed, and the title of the United States to the northwest territory was considered substantially assured by this cession of Virginia and its accept ance.
