This volume is privately printed and presented to the members of the Oxford Historical Society. The thanks, if it deserves any, should be given to the President and Fellows of Magdalen College, for it is the Research Fellowship to which they elected me, that has supplied the money to pay for the book. A distressing number of misprints have been passed, and the only thing is to call attention to the list of Corrigenda, and ask the owner of the volume to correct it, when (and if) he cuts it.
