Most of the men stood in sleeveless undershirts, covered with dust and dirt, and all the girls, like Ma tilda, folded in the collars of their shirtwaists as far away from their sensitive necks as they could, and rolled the long sleeves and the short sleeves almost up to their arm-pits. Many faces bore wrinkles, filled and exaggerated with the smoke of their toil.
