Twenty-three papers, which were given in October 1997 by the academic staff and postgraduates of the University of Sheffield, the University of Münster and their guests at the colloquium to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the academic exchange between the universities of Münster and Sheffield (1947-1997), are printed here and cover the areas of linguistics, literature from Sebastian Brandt to Botho Strauß, social issues, Exilliteratur, migrant literature, area studies and Anglo-German relations.
