E.' M colored, single, aged about 27 years, has no chil dren, but has miscarried three times, the last of which took place about nine months before her present illness. Her monthly periods have been irregular since that time, both in quantity and time of recurrence - sometimes every two weeks, then again going to full time, at times scanty, then again ex cessive, and always attended with pain. Previous to the last abortion, her general health was very good - she is a stout, well-formed woman. About two weeks before I saw her, the menstrual ¿ow came on, and, as usual of late, was attended with some pain, and was excessive in quantity. After the discharge had lasted for two days, she took cold, from expo sure incident to her calling, which was that of wash-woman, the weather being at the time very cold. As a consequence, the discharge was suddenly checked, and the pain in the back and lower part of the abdomen, to which she was accustomed at such times, was greatly increased in severity.

In order to bring about a return of the discharge, hot hip baths were taken, and some hot stimulating drinks, such as ginger-tea and the like, by the advice of friends.
