Gastric cancer represents the one of the three most common malignant causes of the death worldwide, aside the lung and liver cancer. Adequate diagnostic methods and precise determination of the preoperative stage of the gastric cancer has a great impact in the treatment and prognosis of these patients. There are two major staging systems for assesing the locoregional stage of gastric cancer : TNM classification (American Comitee for gastric Cancer) and japanese staging system (JRGSC).
