No One Owns Me

Set in late 18th and early 19th century in the outback of Western Australia, No One Owns Me tells the story of Joe. Orphaned beside a dried out waterhole in the outback, Joe is rescued by Dennis Campbell, an enterprising young cameleer who, with some ingenuity and deception, manages to raise the baby girl as his own child. However, in the rough and dangerous environment of outback life, Dennis chooses to pass Joe off as a boy. Everything seems fine, but change is in the air when Joe, helping her father cart water in the goldfields, meets Paolo, a young Italian boy. An explosive time ensues as both Joe and Dennis have to come to terms with some painful truths. However, there are some secrets about Joe's early life that Dennis will never reveal, but with help from Joe he eventually learns to embrace change and allow them both to make a new life. This is an intriguing tale of love and friendship and how, in a harsh and unrelenting landscape, bonds are forged in surprising ways.
