These preliminary remarks have seemed essential in order that the results of sanitary in¿uences during the period may be properly estimated. For instance, the number of school children to be affected by sickness in 1900 is 5 per cent. Less than in 1887. With this in mind, it becomes of interest, how ever, to find from a table published by the registrar-general in the report for 1900, that the following results, as regards total deaths, have been obtained during the school ages, 5-15, during which most contagious diseases occur.
