S. Fowler has read the entire work from a medical standpoint, and has also rendered invaluable assistance with the proof-sheets, Mr. J. W. Dowden, has also advised on many points of practical surgical importance, and lastly, Dr. Christopher Addison, of London, has revised the paragraphs dealing with abdominal topography in general, and with his own methods in particular.
