In 1817 the University of Berlin conferred the degree of ph.d. On him, and the Society of Natural Sciences elected him a member. He received a position at the Botanical Gardens, and married Antoine Piastre in the same year. His duties allowed him time for scientific and poetical studies, and his domestic life was very happy.
