Comprised of 43 articles, in five sections, Politics of Multiculturalism in the Post-Obama Era: A Reader is a reader designed to help students tackle leading themes in American multiculturalism at the end of the Obama presidency and the start of the Trump administration. The text helps students answer the question, "What is the future of multiculturalism and American diversity now that Barack Obama is no longer president?" In Section I, students explore carefully selected readings about racial diversity and racial bias. In Section II, issues of gender inequality in America, including sexism, patriarchy, homophobia, body image, and more, are addressed. In Section III, the selections discuss racism, color-blindness, white privilege, and affirmative action. In Section IV, students learn how class and economic status affect inequality. In Section V, students read articles about additional types of multiculturalism, including disability, the marginalization of Native Americans, Islamophobia, and the war on immigration. Politics of Multiculturalism in the Post-Obama Era is designed to serve as a supplementary text for foundational courses in political science, sociology, and undergraduate or graduate courses that address multiculturalism or diversity.Christopher I. Xenakis is an adjunct lecturer in political science at SUNY-Cortland, New York, and a scholar of U.S.-Soviet relations and American foreign and military policy. A retired U.S. Navy Chaplain, he served as Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Personnel for Family Programs and was the Navy's liaison to the American Red Cross. From his desk in the Pentagon's Navy Annex, he observed the unraveling of the Cold War and Washington's response to the implosion of the Soviet Union firsthand. Xenakis holds a Ph.D. in World Politics from the Catholic University of America.
