Of course there were differences of opinion regarding the nature of cosmic unity, whether of the pluralistic or monistic type, but all agreed that there was a unity of some kind, so that, in so far as the process of knowledge was concerned, the differences of Opinion turned on the sensory or intellectual, or in modern parlance, the materialistic and the spiritual, view of this knowledge, the con¿ict being between the com mon and the educated man in regard to the world and its phenomena, though in general they held to very much the same propositions.
