David was anointed to be the next king of Israel by Samuel, but he returned to tend sheep.

Then, David met Goliath on the field of Battle. Everything changed. He became the rock star for his era. He married the king's daughter. He was best friends with the King's son. He was made a captain in Saul's army. He had a job in the palace. The women sang songs about him: "Saul has killed thousands and David has killed tens of thousands." He had everything until he lost it all.

Saul, Israel's first king, had been rebuked by the prophet and was told he would lose his kingdom and it would be given to someone close to him. Saul saw that David would be that man and he wanted to stop it. Saul tried twice to kill David and David fled for his life.

When David slipped out that window to flee for his life, he lost everything... his wife, his friend, his positions, and his status in the kingdom.
