Rehabilitative services for chronically homeless adults

Herrera, Elizabeth

Rehabilitative services for chronically homeless adults

Homelessness is a problem and I decided to be a part of the solution. I volunteered many years in various emergency shelters, transitional shelters and advocated in local charities. When I obtained my degree in Human Services from California State University Fullerton, I became a case manager for Thomas House Family Shelter and worked with homeless adults and families. After a few months I was given the opportunity to become the homeless prevention coordinator and piloted a new model in Orange County called rapid re-housing which focused on the housing first model. I continued my education and obtained a Masters degree in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach with an emphasis in older adults and families. I am now an Associate Clinical Social Worker and am pursuing to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to further broaden my education in the mental health field. My goal is to better serve the community and continue to be a part of the solution to the needs of the society.
