While it seems clear, on the one hand, that religious ideas and institutions have been of too great significance in the cul tural history of the race for the school wholly to absolve itself of the duty of introducing the child to this part of his social inheritance, grave and insur mountable difiiculties are often believed to exist in the way of introducing the subject of religion into the public school.
