In the following pages I have embodied, in a somewhat altered form to suit the scope of the present work, one or two contributions of my own to various publications in the United States, notably that sportsman's old favorite "The Forest and Stream."

I am conscious of the many shortcomings in my attempt to exploit Quebec's lake regions, but should it inspire some one to undertake a fuller and more complete work, I shall be among the first to rejoice and to extend a right hearty welcome to the new comer.
