Excerpt from Second Biennial Report of the Trustees, Superintendent and Treasurer of the Illinois Western Hospital for the Insane at Watertown: July 1, 1900It is with a sense of pride which can but be deemed justifiable that we view the condition surrounding the entire institution at the present time. The new wards have been for some time completed and occupied, there now being over 600 patients in the institution, a store and cold storage building has been constructed and fully equipped, an additional boiler, engine and dynamo have been in stalled, two barns and various smaller farm buildings have been erected, a good road has been built to the hospital, cement walks have been laid around the buildings, and a good beginning made towards bringing the grounds to the same degree of beauty which is so marked in other institutions of Illinois. It must be self-evident that the accomplishment of these improvements has involved a vast amount of work, the details of which appear in the report of the superintendent.The statistics bearing upon the medical department of the hospital can be but satisfactory, indicating as they do 169 patients dis charged as recovered, out of a total of 878, of which number 554 were old cases, having been transferred from other institutions.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
