Sessional Papers, Vol. 7

Excerpt from Sessional Papers, Vol. 7: Third Session of the Third Parliament of the Dominion of Canada, Session 1876Much anxiety was manifested during the summer at the reported presence of epizootic disease, which for some years past had proved to be very destructive in the United Kingdom, and on the continent of Europe, involving loss in cattle to the value of many millions of dollars The anxiety among Canadian farmers respecting its introduction was natural when the alarming rapidity with which it is known to spread was considered. It is, however, matter for congratulation that the alarm proved to be groundless and that the disease was not introduced into the country. The duty of the Depart ment, in the circumstances, consisted in carefully and quietly watching the arrivals of imported cattle. Special care was taken to perform this duty in such manner as not to create any alarm in the country. If any trace of the disease had been dis covered, an effort would have been made to localize it, and prevent its spreading in the country.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
