Excerpt from Seventh Annual Report of the Directors and Superintendent of the West Virginia Hospital for the Insane: For the Year 1870There have continued to be numerous applications for admission, very few of which could be received. Some have been brought to our very doors that we were compelled to send home again, greatly to our regret, but it was impossible to admit them.It is probable that there are now about one hundred who would be sent to the hospital promptly if it were known that they could be admit ted, and somewhere from sixty to seventy-five of these are in the jails of the State. Some forty of these, it'is hoped, will soon be provided for, giving us a total of two hundred and fifty patients, but the large number remaining must suffer and wait yet a while longer.The principal statistical facts of the past year, and also of the entire period since the opening in 1863, are given in the following tables.
