Burroughs'' writings reveal complex rhetorical strategies that teach and model phronesis (practical wisdom) creating a discourse grounded in feminist principles. Her startling approach unsettled her contemporaries but withstands the forgetfulness of time, and emerges as a highly unusual progenitor of black feminism.
