But after all, they are, or should be, viewed and cultivated only as a means to an end.Our alumni should line up solidly on the Illinois platform, which is very simple, namely, that honest, straightforward athletics, participated in by all students and pursued in strict subordination to the great purposes for which a university exists, ' are desirable and should be encouraged.
