The Antidote, Vol. 2 (Classic Reprint)

Excerpt from The Antidote, Vol. 2

The first volume of this series was published in 1902, and represented practically the produce of the previous year. It will be inferred that the delay in the appearance of the second volume has not been in any way caused by lack of material: as far as that goes, the "series" is not unlikely to be an infinite one. After much sifting, there remains enough matter in the Editor's hands - and that from a single source - to fill several further volumes, and, of course, fresh subjects are constantly cropping up. The soil in which the poisonous plants of anti-Catholic controversy flourish is so permeated with their fibres that seemingly no amount of uprooting and burning can serve to clear it thoroughly. However, there are signs that some of those "hardy perennials" have lost much of their vitality, that others are moribund, and some few actually dead, and these signs encourage the tillers of that soil to continue their weary but not wholly unprofitable task.
