While the medical profession has been alive to other ideal interests, having for their aim the cure of human ills, the prolongation of life and the betterment of the race in general, it has not bestowed enough attention upon the methods of treatment which are being pursued at the leading health resorts, and this remark applies with especial force to the medical profession of Great Britain and America. In the realm of cardiac therapy, balneologic methods, including dietetics and mechanical measures, are free from certain disadvantages of the older modes of treatment, principally by the use of digitalis, rest and active saline catharsis.
