Ignoring his father's warning, a young boy paddles out to sea in his small boat. The wind blows him far away from home to a strange island where he has only animals for company and berries to eat. But by carefully observing how birds fly and using his own ingenuity and patience, he makes a wonderful discovery that brings him safely home again.
