It is unnecessary to go back into the earlier history of the Lovat family for -no differences of opinion or interest arise be tween the parties, so far as we can trace, until the end of the seventeenth century, though the present claim to the estates rests on a Crown charter, granted to Hugh, fifth Lord Lovat, and his heirs male, dated the 26th of March I 539.
