If the plates show such a sclerotic process and there are no cells remaining in the inferior part of the mastoid, then it is not necessary to go down into the tip of the mastoid in a radical opera tion, but remove only as much of the mastoid as is needed for work ing space in the antrum and middle ear. Such cases naturally te cover more quickly than those in which a more extensive operation 15 necessary.
