Excerpt from The Economics of Railway Transport

During the early months of the present year the author gave a short course of lectures at Cambridge on "The Economics of Transport, " and this volume has originated in an attempt to reproduce the substance of those lectures in some connected form. In carrying the project into execution so much has necessarily been added, subtracted, and modified that little real similarity now remains, but mention is made of this fact since it indicates not only the origin of this book but also to some extent its scope and purpose.
