This book on the Life and Duty of the Citizen has been written for evening continuation schools, and the upper standards of day schools. I hope that it may also be found of interest by the general public.

Many suitable books of reference may be used with advantage by teachers in dealing with this important subject. I should like to express my own indebtedness to the admirable English Citizen Series, particularly to the volumes on Central Government (H. D. Traill) and The Poor Law (Rev. T. W. Fowle).
