Mordell (1885-1965) was the author of a number of books of literary criticism including 'The Literature of Ecstasy, ' 'Dante and Other Waning Classics' and 'The Shifting of Literary Values.' In this work first published in 1919 he endeavours to apply some of the methods of psychoanalysis to literature.
