Respects, to fall in tally with the form of piety, and to furnish expressmn for the Spiritual wants, char acteristic of the Churches. Which *derive their'ori? Gin from the German Churches of the Reformation. This consideration mainly, has prevailed upon him to undertake the preparation of the present volume, at the special solicitation of several personal friends, notwithstanding he 18 conscious, that the task ought to have been undertaken by one having more tal ent for devotional Writing, than he is conscious 2of possessing. He has endeavored to give to it the best of his energies, and consumed upon it many hours, during some five, or six months, which would otherwise have been given to recreation or rest. If he has, by divine grace, succeeded in furnishing a work ln any good degree adapted to cover the want it was designed to meet, he will consider him.
