The Forest Keepers

This story is located in the Northwestern parts of the United States. It takes place in the state of Idaho during the first quarter of the 1900s. The newly formed department of Forest Service had sent out trained firefighting crews after the horrific devastation created by the great Blow Up fire of 1910. Its primary goal was to build base camps and lookout towers across the vast wilderness, to protect the magnificent and massive forests, sprawling prairies, and pristine natural wonders of the lands. Many of the crews brought their families with them and learned additional firefighting tactics used by the local Native Americans. The natives called these government firefighters "Forest Keepers."This story is narrated by the storyteller and describes a possible relationship and series of events, which could have been a real case scenario between Forest Service crewmembers and the local Native settlement. It describes how the people and their youth came together to tackle a common goal of protecting the lands and how they had formed a strong community of American Wildland Firefighters.
