Accordingly, after serious consideration and prayer, they resolved to continue to hear the gospel, notwithstanding all the dangers to which they might be exposed, and to publish to the world their testi. Mony to the truth and cause which they owned, and against the sins and defections of the times. In consequence of this resolution, the 'said Mr hamilion, 'mr Thomas Douglas one of their preachers, and about 80 armed men, were pitched upon to go up to some public place to publish their declaration, and burn the papers mentioned in it. They judged that the 29th of May was the most proper time for putting this in execution. Accordingly, the afternoon of that day, they came to Ruther glen, a small royal burgh two miles from Glasgow, where they extinguished the bonfires, put their resolution in practice, and affixed a copy of their declaration to the market-cross, the fol lowing is according to the copy thereof subjoined to the Infor.
